The PECHS track team has been busy. This article will be continually updated with results. Congratulations to our student-athletes!

Gus Lacy Invitational Results:

The girls' track team finished 8th out of 15 teams with 38 points. The boys finished 10th out of 17 teams with 25 points. Aliyah Rachels won the triple jump with a personal record of 35 feet and four inches. She also placed 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles and tied for 5th in the high jump. Makayla Nelson was second in the long jump and tied for 5th in the high jump. Nia Davis placed 5th in the discus. Kamani Watkins placed 4th in the long jump. Truth Woodard placed 6th in the triple jump. Sylvia Hemmer was 6th in the 1600. The throwers 4 x 100 relay of Nia Davis, Alivia Rachels, Dejanira Pearl, and Nina Jones placed 4th. Jamarion Crawley placed 3rd in the 100 meters and 2nd in the 200 meters. DeAlonzo Walker placed third in the 300 hurdles. The throwers 4 x 100 relay of Sanchez Perkins, Jeremy Watson, Levon Morris, and Antwan Douglas. Levon Morris placed 6th in the discus with a personal record of 121 feet and 2 inches.

Run 804 Invitational:

On April 6th, the Prince Edward track team participated in the Run 804 Invitational held at Varina High School. This meet featured schools from class 1A to 6A and teams from Maryland. Makayla Nelson was awarded Co-Outstanding Field Performer. Makayla won the high jump at 5 feet 2 inches and set a meet record at 17 feet and 6 inches in the long jump.

Louisa Mini J.V. Invitational:

The Prince Edward track team competed in the Louisa Mini J.V. Invitational on March 29th. The ladies placed 3rd overall with a score of 74. Aliyah Rachels won the high jump with a personal record of 5 feet and the long jump with another personal record of 16 feet and 4 inches. The men's team placed 5th overall.


Regional Meet Results:


On May 20th the Prince Edward County Track teams competed in the 2A Region A track meet.  The girls track team emerged as Regional Champions. As a team, they scored 138 points. Finishing second was Bruton with 82 and third was Lunenburg with 78.5. The effort was led by sophomore Aliyah Rachels Who was regional champion in three events. She won the triple jump, long jump, and 300 hurdles. She also finished 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles and 3rd in the high jump. Sylvia Hemmer won the 1600 and finished 2nd in the 800 meters. Makayla was 2nd in the 100 meters and 200 meters. She was also 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the long jump. In addition, she was a leg of the 4 by 100 relay that also won regionals. She was joined by ShaKeyah Williams, Kamani Watkins, and Truth Woodard. Truth was also 5th in the 100 meters and 6th in the 200 meters and long jump. The 4 by 400 relay team was also the regional Champions. That group was composed of Alexis Hunsucker, Zaronica Perkins, Dashara Kimbrough, and Sylvia Hemmer. Dejanira Pearl was 5th in the triple jump and Kamani Watkins was 6th. Nia Davis was 5th in the discus.

For the boys, Jamarion Crawley was 2nd in the 200 meters. He was a member of the 6th place 4 by 100 relay team. He was joined by DeAlonzo Walker, Duane Booker, and Tyrone Hughes. DeAlonzo Walker placed second in the 300 hurdles.  Tre’Andreas Harvey placed 6th in the 110 hurdles and DeAlonzo was 7th. As a team the boys placed 10th.

The following individuals have qualified to the state track meet in the following events. The state meet will be May 31st and June 1st. The meet will be conducted at James Madison University.

Aliyah Rachels – Long jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, 100 hurdles, and 300 hurles

Makayla Nelson – Long Jump, High Jump, 100 meters, 200 meters, 4 by 100 relay

Sylvia Hemmer – 1600 meters, 800 meters, 4 by 400 relay

Truth Woodard – Triple jump, 4 by 100 relay

Kamani Watkins – Long Jump, 4 by 100 relay.

ShaKeyah Williams – 4 by 100 relay.

Zaronica Perkins – 4 by 400 relay.

Alexis Hunsucker – 4 x 400 relay.

Dashara Kimbrough – 4 x 400 relay.

Jamarion Crawley – 100meters, 200 meters, 4 by 100 relay

DeAlonzo Walker – 300 hurdles, 4 by 100 relay

Duane Booker – 4 by 100 relay.

Tyrone Hughes – 4 by 100 relay.


State Meet Results

As a team, the girls finished in fourth place with 45.5 points. Makayla Nelson was once again state champion in the long jump, jumping seventeen feet and eleven and one-quarter inches. She was second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.80 seconds and third in the high jump with a leap of five feet. Aliyah Rachels was third in the triple jump with a jump of 36 feet and 6 and one-quarter inches. She was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.0 seconds. Sylvia Hemmer was third in the 1600 meters at 5:25.37 minutes. She finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.24. The girls four by 100 relay team finished sixth with a time of 51.78 seconds. That relay comprised ShaKeyah Williams, Kamani Watkins, Truth Woodard, and Makayla Nelson. Two boys were placed at the state meet. Jamarion Crawley was third in the 100 with a time of 11.35. DeAlonzo Walker was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.55 seconds.
