Prince Edward County High School student-athlete Sylvia Hemmer secures victory and sets new course record in James River District Championship Race!
In an exhilarating showcase of talent and determination, PECHS athlete Sylvia Hemmer emerged victorious in the James River District Championship race held on October 18th, 2023. Not only did she claim the title, but she also left her mark by setting a remarkable new course record of 20:43 for the 5K run.
Miss Hemmer is a dedicated and passionate runner. She won the James River District Championship race for the third consecutive year. Her impressive achievement not only highlights her individual excellence but also the remarkable teamwork and training put forth by the Prince Edward County High School athletics program. Coach Barber remarked,” On more than one occasion this year Sylvia has not been present to receive her award after the race because she is running a cool down. She is such a hard worker and it shows in her performance. I will miss her next year as she moves on to run at the college level."
In addition to her remarkable cross-country achievements, Sylvia Hemmer holds the school track record for Prince Edward County High School in the 1600m, 3200m, and 800m runs. Her versatility and determination in various track events make her an outstanding athlete.
