The Prince Edward County School Board has appointed Dr. Joseph Cox as acting Superintendent, effective October 7, 2024. Dr. Cox will serve in this role while the School Board undertakes the search for a permanent superintendent to succeed Dr. Johnson.
Dr. Cox brings a wealth of experience to Prince Edward County Public Schools, having previously served as Superintendent of Colonial Heights Public Schools. After a successful tenure, he retired from Colonial Heights Public Schools, but is eager to return to public education in this interim capacity. His extensive background in educational leadership and commitment to student achievement will support the school division during this period of transition.
To assist in the search for a new superintendent, the Prince Edward County School Board has enlisted the help of the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA). The first meeting with the VSBA will take place on October 15, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., where the Board will discuss and outline the process for selecting the next leader of Prince Edward County Public Schools.
Lucy Carson, Chair of the Prince Edward County School Board, shared her thoughts on this pivotal moment for the division: "We are pleased to have Dr. Cox join our team and help guide our schools during this important period. His experience and leadership will be crucial as we work to strengthen our efforts and engage all stakeholders in our search for the next superintendent. Our goal is to find a leader who will inspire our staff, support our students, and build strong partnerships with our community. We look forward to the important work ahead as we seek to provide the best educational opportunities for our students".
