PECPS Celebrates New Playground and The Reading Eagle!
Dr. Johnson, PECPS Superintendent, greeted attendees with a warm welcome and expressed her appreciation to the planning committee and guests. In her remarks, Dr. Johnson said, “Today is a special day for our school as we gather to celebrate the grand opening of not just one, but TWO incredible additions to our campus – our brand new playground and our literacy bus, The Reading Eagle. I am excited to stand before you as we mark this wonderful occasion.”
The new playground at our elementary school is now open and ready for students to explore. This vibrant space includes an outdoor classroom and ability-inclusive equipment, creating a haven where our children can play, learn, and grow in a safe and engaging environment. Mrs. Vance, PECES Principal emphasized the inclusivity of the playground, stating, “The playground that you see around me is ADA focused, which means that it is accessible and inclusive for children of ALL abilities. This is a safe space that will hopefully facilitate collaboration and friendship while engaging our students in play and fun.”
We are also proud to introduce The Reading Eagle, our literacy bus is designed to promote reading and serve as a mobile hub for educational activities and community engagement. This mobile unit will travel to various community events across Prince Edward County, bringing books and enriching learning experiences directly to our students. Dr. Johnson highlighted the bus's mission, saying, “Our goal with this bus is to have a mobile hub for ‘all things literacy’. We want to provide parents with information and resources to help their child become proficient readers. Students will have opportunities to read books and develop their joy for reading through fun and engaging literacy-related activities.”
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for this wonderful celebration, including members of our school board, the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors, numerous teachers, and our amazing students. Dr. Johnson expressed her gratitude, noting, “None of this would be possible without our planning teams and the support of our teachers, central office, and superintendent. Your hard work, commitment, and belief in the vision made today a reality, and for that, I am grateful.”
We look forward to many more opportunities to come together and celebrate our shared achievements.
