Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) welcomed Senator Luther H. Cifers III, Congressman John J. McGuire III, Delegate Thomas C. Wright Jr., members of their teams, and School Board representatives for the Virginia School Boards Associationโs Take Your Legislator to Lunch Day. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss public education, hear directly from students, and explore learning opportunities across the division.
The day began with discussions with School Board members, student liaisons Laila Robinson, Zachariah Evans, and Makayla Eppes, along with school leaders. Guests then toured all three PECPS schools, observing students and staff in action and learning more about the programs and opportunities available to students.
Highlights included visits to the Masonry and Cosmetology programs, where students develop practical skills, gain hands-on experience, and explore potential career pathways. These programs provide students with opportunities to apply classroom learning in career-focused settings and begin building skills for their futures.
At Prince Edward County Elementary School, visitors also saw students enjoying the new playground behind the library in the recently renovated section of the school.
Throughout the tours, guests observed classroom instruction, laboratory activities, and hands-on learning experiences that reflect PECPSโs commitment to preparing students for future success.
โOpportunities like this allow our legislators to see firsthand the learning, creativity, and dedication happening across our schools,โ said Dr. Chip Jones, Superintendent of Prince Edward County Public Schools. โWe appreciated the opportunity for our student liaisons to share their perspectives and for our guests to connect with our students and staff. Our Eagles represented PECPS beautifully, and I am grateful to everyone who helped make the day a success, including our Culinary Arts team for preparing lunch.โ
Prince Edward County Public Schools appreciates the time and engagement of its visiting legislators and School Board representatives. The division remains committed to providing meaningful learning opportunities, supporting student success, and building partnerships that benefit students and the community.
